Job Description

International Research Administrator (Business Development) Location Baltimore, MD :

The International Research Administrator for the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) Business Development sets of strategic, proactive, and capacity-building activities designed to facilitate individual faculty members and international program and research teams attracting extramural funding including NIH, CDC, USAID and foundation funding for IHV international research and public health programs.

With the goal of enabling competitive research and program proposal development, this position will collaborate with resources that span across disciplinary and administrative groups within UMB and international partners in 8 sub-Saharan African countries.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Advise and inform the strategic direction and leadership for proposal development, including education and training programs for faculty and staff, and review of relevant metrics in alignment with strategic plans.
  • Manage complex proposal development process throughout lifecycle by working with the faculty, research administration support staff, and international staff allowing ample time for the proposals to be written, assembled, checked, proofread, and submitted within required deadlines.
  • Identify funding sources and strategically promote proposal development and submission for extramural funding from NIH, CDC, USAID, and other foundations and provide the highest level of proposal assistance to faculty and international program staff.
  • Work with individual faculty in strategic areas, and junior faculty, in developing responses to specific proposal.
  • Ensure proposal content is responsive and consistent across programmatic themes, budget, workplan and appendices.
  • Support the technical writer by drafting and editing sections of the proposal.
  • Develop tools for communicating funding opportunities, including limited submissions, and manage internal competitions, including mechanisms for providing feedback to both successful and unsuccessful applicants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Six (6) years progressively building research administrative background with at least 4 years in full life-cycle research administration.

Preferred Experience: Prior experience managing/coordinating international contracts and grants.

Experience working in international research development in a higher education.

Preferred Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of work coordination or training of others.

Preferred Certification/Licensure: Clinical Research Associate (CRA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Other: Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee.

Hiring Range: $105,000 - $114,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
